15weeks 3 days

I had a doctors appointment this morning. Everything is going great. I go back on Feb 14 and then again on Feb 28 for the BIG ultrasound!!!!

My doctor is having me check my blood sugar levels for a few days because I've been feeling very faint and "low" after I eat. He thinks my levels are dropping rather than staying where they should. I guess it's better to have low blood sugar than it being high and risk for gestational diabetes. I've always had low blood sugar and I faintly remember having this same problem when I was pg with Zachary.

I have only gained 1 pound so far in the pregnancy, phew! I am officially in maternity clothes (have been for about 2 weeks) and I'm feeling the little one move around more and more each day. The heart beat this morning was around 162. So far the hb has been steady in the 160's.

It's the end of the month so things are busy at work and I already missed the first 2 hours this morning. I better get to work.

2nd trimester and the flu

My second trimester didn't start off all that great - I had the nasty flu bug all weekend. I still don't feel the hottest.

On a good note, I felt the little one moving around this weekend. I am still skeptical by being able to feel the baby so early since I'm just 14 weeks but they say you are able to feel the baby earlier during the second pregnancy. I think the baby was just mad at me for being sick. :-(

To get a little personal, my boobs have tripled in size. I can't wear any of my comfortable bras anymore and I can't find bras at the local stores that fit me! I don't know what I'm going to do. I've already bought the bra extenders hoping they will prolong me a few more weeks but they do not work. They make my bras feel very uncomfortable. I am sitting at work today pulling and tugging on my bra, it hurts. I would much rather take it off and let the kids do their own thing and be free - but that's not very professional of me! LOL I might take a trip to Wally World on my break to see if I can find something a little bit more comfortable.

I received some of the clothes I ordered from JCP this weekend the good news is the pants fit me great. The bad news is the shirts are too big. The shirts look like I'm wearing mu-mu's (I think that's how you spell it.) I am in desperate need of long sleeve shirts so I am going to return them to get a smaller size. I don't know if I need to go down 2 sizes, I don't want the shirts to be form fitting tight, I am already fat and don't need to be wearing shirts so tight everyone can see the wonderful rolls I have. I'll figure it out.

I think I am just procrastinating right now. It's Monday and I still feel like crap - I don't want to work but I really need to. We have a big event on Thursday.

10 more days until my next appointment - I can't wait!

Just not feeling it

Not a whole lot to post here today other than the fact that I just don't feel pregnant anymore. It's weird. My stomach feels hard and is rather noticeable more some days than others. I haven't had morning sickness for about a week now (yeah!). I am at the awkward stage of just feeling fat and not really feeling pregnant yet.

I have my next check up on Jan 31, it seems like it's been forever since I've seen the doctor. I'm hoping they will use the doppler to check for heartbeat, I want to be able to hear it again. I need to hear it to confirm everything is still okay.

Pretty boring, right now. I have been pressuring Mike to get started on our upstairs so we can get bedrooms moved upstairs in order to get a play room and nursery started. I'd like to do it now so I can help rather than wait until the very last possible moment. Men!

Until next week...

Drs appointment update

Phew!

Everything went very well this morning. I loved Dr. B, too bad he is not a full time doctor at the office. He made me feel very much at ease and doesn't think there is going to be a need to get the amnio. He is going to try to get my ultrascreen test back as soon as possible so we can get the results. He told me not to even worry about getting the progesterone shots after 16 weeks. Dr. B told me to maintain a balanced calorie diet and not to worry about gaining weight until I am around 26 weeks and then to try to only gain 10-15 lbs. When I went in this morning in I had lost 2 lbs.

I go to my regular appointment on January 31 at that time we will schedule the "BIG" ultrasound for probably the last week of February when I'll be 20 weeks.

I just felt a big sigh of relief.

Worried about my appointment tomorrow

All I have been able to think about since my appointment last week is the Amniocentesis my doctor recommended. I am scared, very scared. I don't have my ultrascreen blood results back yet so how do they expect me to make a decision tomorrow to get the Amnio done when I don't know what the real risks will be? We meet with the high risk doctor/genetic counselor tomorrow. We are supposed to discuss the miscarriage I had in June due to Trisomy 22, the baby was only supposed to have 2 of chromosome 22 and it had 3 instead which caused the miscarriage. My doctor first told me it's a fluke, not likely to happen again. Now one of the other doctors at the office is telling me I have a higher risk of having a child with a chromosomal defect since I already carried a child that had one. BUT the technician said the baby looked great on the ultrasound, everything looks to be perfect.

It also comes down to what would we do if we did find out something was wrong? Mike and I have been talking about it and it's strictly our decision and no one else's so whatever we do decide will be between us.

I have read so much information about the Amnio; the more I read the more I am confused. I just needed to get some things off my chest. My appointment is at 8:00 a.m tomorrow, the first one of the day . Dr. B comes once a month from Columbus to meet with high risk patients in Athens.

On a good note everything is going great. I swear I felt a little flutter the other day at work. But I am just at the beginning of 12 weeks. I don't think it's possible even if I've been pregnant before and remember what the feeling was like. I have slowly started moving out of my regular clothes to my maternity clothes. My pants are way to tight yet some of my maternity pants are a little too big. I have a few baby doll shirts I wear so they are more comfortable.

Just something neat

I thought this was neat. I found it on www.i-am-pregnant.com

Dates and numbers:
There are 199 days until your due date on July 21, 2008.
You are 81 days pregnant.
You are 2.7 months pregnant.
You are in your 3rd month of pregnancy. (huh?)
Your 1st trimester: October 15, 2007 to January 13, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: January 14, 2008 to April 27, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: April 28, 2008 to July 21, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
Your baby continues to grow and is now approximately the size of a large lime! The crown-to-rump length of your developing child is 1.75 to 2.4 inches. The weight of the fetus is approximately 8 grams at this point. The growth of your baby is phenomenal now and your baby's length will double in the next three weeks. The head is grossly out of proportion and is almost half of the baby's length.

You are almost at the end of your first trimester and while changes continue to occur quickly in your baby, they are happening at a slower rate in you. Your uterus has been growing with the fetus inside of it and is now almost big enough to fill your pelvis. Your uterus may be able to be felt in your lower abdomen, above the middle of your pubic bone. You are not able to feel the baby moving inside of you at this time. Some women think that they have felt their baby moving now, but it is either gas or a wrongly dated pregnancy. You might also be noticing changes in your hair, fingernails, or skin around this time. Some women notice an increase in hair growth and nail growth during pregnancy and others lose small amounts of hair. You are burning up calories at a faster rate than you did before you became pregnant! The amount of blood being pumped around your body will increase and you might feel warmer than usual.

This is the last week of the embryonic period. From now on, your baby will be called a fetus. Your baby's fingernails appear this week! External genitalia are beginning to show distinguishing features and the development of male or female will be complete in three weeks. The placenta's blood vessels increase to provide your baby with the nutrients and oxygen he needs for continued growth. Your baby's ears are gradually moving from the neck towards the sides of his head. Inside of your baby's abdomen, the intestines are developing. Because the intestines are so large, some of them project into the umbilical cord and they will return to the abdomen within the next week or two.

At the size of a plumb, your baby is now able to swallow. The urinary system functions. The baby swallows and urinates the amniotic fluid and the fluid is continually replaced. The baby is kicking but the mother cannot feel it yet. All vital organs are formed and, for the most part, function normally. From now on, they will grow in size and efficiency.

As a preparation for breastfeeding, your baby now has learned to swallow. Babies swallow amniotic fluid in the uterus.

On Cloud Nine!

I had a WONDERFUL visit with my doctor this morning. I first had an ultrasound and since I was the first one there the tech did a 20 minute u/s. Our little baby was sucking her/his thumb, kicking, moving all around. The baby is measuring at 12 w 1 day and I am only 11w3d so everything is looking great. The tech said the baby looks clear, neck is not thick and the nasal cavity looks great. The h/b was 163 and very strong. I have a full length video of the u/s and a ton of pictures.

After my u/s I met with the doctor to do a pap and my ultra screen testing. I also got weighed, I have not gained an ounce. Phew! I am hoping I can clear the first trimester with out gaining and slowly start to gain in my 2 and 3rd. My glucose test came back at 92 which is good. I won't have to do another one until I'm 20 weeks. My doctor suggested I see the high risk doctor next week (January 10) to discuss the possibility of doing an amino because of the genetic problem that caused our miscarriage in June. I do not feel comfortable with an amino, if my ultra screen blood work comes back alright then I don't think I want to do it. It's something Mike and I will need to discuss. I am also supposed to discuss with the high risk doctor the possibility of needing a progesterone shot once a week starting at 16w. It is supposed to help with pre-term labor. I went into pre-term labor with Zachary at 32 weeks and they want to be proactive to avoid it again.

I go back to my regular doctor on January 31. At that visit they will schedule the anatomy scan. The technician said she would like for me to wait until 19-20 weeks that way she can get a good clear picture of the baby. After the pictures I got today I don't think that will be a problem. Although the little one had her/his legs crossed for a good part of the scan. LOL

I'll update after my appointment with the high risk doctor next week.
